My Favorite Dish Soap Scents for Every Month
Mrs. Meyers brand is by far my favorite dish soap. While it can be a bit more on the expensive side, (on average it's around $4.50 or so per bottle) it is something I splurge on none the less. I spend enough time scrubbing stuck on food off of grubby dishes that I tell myself I'm worth smelling dish soap that is going to make me happy while doing a chore that I don't totally enjoy. I try to think of the extra expense as a purchase for a decorative or seasonal item! I try to change my dish soap scent with each month to keep them smelling new. While the fall and winter months scents are a little more, shall we say, strict, during the spring and summer months I don't follow my scent schedule as rigidly.
October: Acorn Spice Oh. My. Goodness. Acorn Spice is my go-to fall scent. For as much as people love pumpkin spice flavored everything in the fall, Acorn Spice is my scent for this season. If my husband didn't dislike it (crazy, I know!) I would probably use it from September 1st until November 30th.
November: Apple Cider Yummy, but not as deliciously rich as Acorn Spice or Mum. Apple Cider is slightly lighter but still very festive!
December: Orange Clove A festive, spicy & citrusy scent that warms you from the inside out.
January: Snow Drop A cool, crisp, clean scent perfect for the chilly days of winter.
February: Peony Richly sweet floral full of bright scents.
March: Lavender Smells just like you'd think it would. It's the classic relaxing scent of lavender.
April: Rainwater Cool, clean and sweet, perfect for the rainy days of April!
May: Lilac Smells like fresh cut lilac.
June: Honeysuckle, Bluebell or Basil June is a mixed bag. I more or less have these here, but in the summer, I tend to use whatever scent is sale (keeping it real here) although these three are some of go-to favorites. The best way to describe them would be to say that they smell like a happy summer day.July: Compassion Flower Bright undertones of floral
August: Radish A very subtle scent perfect for a clean and refreshing feel.
September: Mum This is one of my favorite scents! It seems like it's getting more and more difficult to find but it has such a deep floral scent that I just can't get enough of it!
When my oldest was a newborn, I loved to use the Baby Blossom laundry soap and air freshener, but it's been many years since I've used it. It's so refreshingly light and sweet, the perfect scent to surround your newborn baby in.
Once, about 18 years ago I came across Gingerbread and Rhubarb dish soap, but I haven't seen that scent in many years although I really did enjoy them both.
Over the years I have come in contact with a few scents that didn't make my list of favorites. In other words, these are the scents that I don't plan on buying again:
Lemon Verbena: I love real lemon verbenas, but this smells nothing like the real plant. I'm not sure what it smells like but it's not for me, although it is my sister's favorite Mrs. Meyer's soap scent.
Geranium: I love real geraniums but this soap smells like fake rose to me, which I don't like.
Iowa Pine: I like the smell of real pine trees, but not pine scented things.
Pumpkin: Don't get me wrong, I LOVE pumpkin scented things, but this soap smelled nothing like any pumpkin scent I'd ever smelled before and hopefully never smell again.
Peppermint: I'm not a huge fan of my kitchen smelling sticky and sweet after it's been cleaned.
Plum Berry: While I wanted to like this scent, it was just too strong for my taste.
I also admit that I haven't tried all the scents before, and not all of the following scents are available in the dish soap that I love, but I am looking forward to trying the following scents at some point:
Fresh Cut Grass: This one is a friend's favorite scent.
Oat blossom: This just sounds like a calming scent.
Eucalyptus: I love the menthol-y tingle of my eucalyptus lip balm and if this soap is anything like that, it may be one of my new favorites.Birch wood: My husband works with wood, so I'm intrigued by this scent.
Clemintine: I love citrus scented stuff! I also love my citrus lip balm.
Rosemary: I don't know what to say about this one other than it sounds lovely, and I want to try it!
Fall Leaves: I didn't even know this was a scent until I put together this blog post! I'm so excited to try this one!
