Pretty Little Buttons

I have a black kitchen apron that I love! It's long, almost coming down to my ankles and flowy like a dress. I found it on Etsy a few years ago. The apron originally came with clear plastic buttons to hold the adjustable straps in place. I like to wear my straps crossed in the back because it eliminates any excess stress from my neck.

In the three years since I've owned mine, I've lost the buttons to the straps not once, but twice! After I lost the clear plastic buttons, I replaced them with the brass and black detailed button in the picture. Apparently, I didn't sew them on well enough because those came off as well. Sadly, I could only find this one. Even after months of searching (I know that sounds crazy, but I just loved those vintage buttons) I couldn't find it, so I began looking for another pair of pretty little buttons. I'm blessed to have two of my four great-grandmother's sewing boxes passed down to me and those vintage sewing boxes contain some very unique buttons.

I knew that I wanted something vintage to go on my beautiful apron so yesterday I dug through the buttons and found these beauties: a mother of pearl looking button, a brass button and a black square diamond-cut glass button. After consulting my daughter, we both decided that the button that looked best on the apron itself was in fact the black square diamond-cut glass button! I sewed them on using my wooden spooled thread and they look lovely.

Here's to hoping they stay on longer than the last two pairs of buttons did!
