Homemade Bread

The start of something wonderful
Years ago, when my oldest had just began to toddle around and eat full meals on his own I began baking my own bread. I wanted to know exactly what was in the food that was entering his precious little mouth. I was a stay home mommy at the time and the time and labor that went into home baked bread made no difference to me. Fast forward 10 plus years, three more babies and a part time job... In the hustle and bustle of multiple kids, multiple schools, commuting to work and everything else in between, my bread making was put on the back burner, or maybe more accurately put into the attic and forgotten about. Sometime last year I bought myself a bread machine! The ease of this contraption would enable me to pop out fresh baked bread daily, which I did for a while, but a few months ago we moved from a standard home in California to our tiny, off-grid home in the high desert of Nevada. We have found that appliances that have electric heating elements use too much of our Battle Born battery's charge too quickly, so we have phased out our crock pot, toaster, and beloved bread machine. I don't think of this as an annoyance or inconvenience but rather of an opportunity to enjoy the hands-on process of breadmaking once again.
